Dr. Vela is an experienced plastic surgeon, board certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a member of the prestigious American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Vela’s years of surgical experience encompass Maxillofacial surgery, General surgery and Plastic surgery, including cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.

Dr. Vela received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, where he also received training in General surgery. In addition to extensive training at the University of Maryland Medical System, he also received training in complex maxillofacial trauma reconstruction at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

Dr. Vela completed his specialty training in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Vela also dedicated additional training, refining his cosmetic skills, at renowned New York hospitals- Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat and Lenox Hill, where some of the world’s foremost experts in plastic surgery perform procedures. Dr. Vela is an author, lecturer and has educated physicians on various surgical techniques. Dr. Vela frequently lectures to various clinicians, healthcare groups, organizations and hospitals throughout Maryland.

Dr. Vela is in private practice, dedicated to plastic surgery. He is highly skilled in both surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation techniques. Dr. Vela incorporates the simple concept that “..the goals and desires of the patient are foremost”. Initial education, prevention, maintenance and minimally invasive concepts are the foundation of Dr. Vela’s practice philosophy.

Dr. Vela’s approach to patient care is very personalized. He emphasizes patient participation from consult through delivery of care. Dr. Vela feels that focusing on patient’s goals and desires leads to successful outcomes. During the initial consult, Dr. Vela develops a treatment plan that will target specific areas of concern to patients. If desired, patients can request a second consult to further review all possible treatment options. Additionally, Dr. Vela is always available for phone discussions or e-mail.

Due to his recent training in contemporary, minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Vela is able to perform treatments with smaller incisions, affording less recovery time and more natural appearing results.
